Sino-European Automotive Carbon Footprint Mutual Recognition Guidelines to Launch Globally

According to the Secretariat of SEA LCA, the final version of the Sino-European Automotive Carbon Footprint Accounting, Verification, and Mutual Recognition Guidelines (v1.0) will be officially released in June 2025 during the CATC-ITEC Conference in Spain.

According to the Secretariat of SEA LCA, the final version of the Sino-European Automotive Carbon Footprint Accounting, Verification, and Mutual Recognition Guidelines (v1.0) (hereinafter referred to as the “Guidelines”) will be officially released in June 2025 during the CATC-ITEC Conference in Spain.

At the end of 2024, the Carbon Digital Center and Green NCAP, together with industry partners, jointly established the SEA LCA Working Group, aiming to create a “green passport” for Chinese automakers entering international markets through the innovative “Single Calculation, Multiple Recognition” mechanism.

To further promote global alignment between the Chinese and European automotive carbon footprint management systems, SEA LCA co-drafted the Guidelines v1.0, which are grounded in Sino-European consensus and adopt a full life cycle perspective of the automotive value chain. The document provides a systematic framework for data collection, carbon footprint accounting, third-party verification, and mutual recognition. The draft is currently in the public consultation phase, and stakeholders from all sectors are warmly invited to contribute their feedback.

The Secretariat confirms that the final version of the Guidelines will be released in June 2025 at the ITEC Conference in Spain. In parallel, the first batch of vehicles recognized under the Sino-European mutual recognition framework will be jointly published on the official websites of CPP and Green NCAP, marking the transition of the SEA LCA Working Group from mechanism building to real-vehicle verification.
